Course Overview:

Law enforcement officers face extraordinary challenges that continue to take a significant toll on their mental health and overall well-being. Despite years of discussion surrounding the subject of “wellness” our men and women continue to struggle. Through real and practical examples, Chief Ramirez identifies how the repeated consumption of grief, tragedy, and emotionally impactful scenes has chipped away at the mental health of our police forces for generations. Many of the emotionally impactful calls we respond to are titled as “routine”. Support services, resources, and the cultural wall within our organizations have yet to detect these damaging effects, leading officers to process these violent scenes all on their own.

This training outlines the strategy to disrupt the compartmentalizing of these impactful calls and build a culture where emotional health is prioritized, not avoided. Checkpoints, an innovative strategy, builds a healthier culture and improves the quality of life for police officers and professional staff. The Checkpoints Strategy has transformed the cultural and emotional health of several small, mid and large agencies around the country with measurable results after only a few months of implementation. Agencies have used this strategy to promote their recruitment, retention, crime reduction and community engagement efforts. This strategy is the first of its kind and the only true culture-changing strategy that exists for law enforcement today.

Attendees will gain a blueprint for the Checkpoints strategy. Including why it’s needed, how it works, how to find and develop checkpoint officers, and what incidents are emotionally impactful.
