Course Overview:


This course is designed for law enforcement operators, military personnel and emergency responders as an introduction to UAS / Drones operations. In this 1-day training, students will gain the essential knowledge needed to operate drones effectively in various public safety scenarios. 


As the use of drone and UAS solutions continue to evolve, understanding the history and application within American Policing is critical. This course will provide an overview of the fundamental components of UAS / Drone technology, dive into the historical context of use cases in Law Enforcement, explore the important legal frameworks including 14 CFR 107 and 14 CFR 91. Students will learn about the National Airspace System, and laws governing the use of UAS / Drones as well as privacy concerns surrounding Drone operations. Students will receive preparation to pass the Part 107 Knowledge test enabling them to become certified as Unmanned Aircraft Commercial Pilot. 


Students will learn to identify and track targets during day and night operations, maintain visual contact with suspects while relaying critical information to headquarters, and accurately mark locations of suspected contraband drops (guns, drugs, or money). 


Discuss utilizing drones during tactical operations like slow & methodical search warrants, barricaded subjects in vehicles, attics and other hard to reach spaces.


This course will cover constitutional and privacy concerns relating to drone operations and best practices which will include discussing case laws and court decisions relating to law enforcement operations involving drones.
