Edward Nowak has 24 years in the law enforcement field. He began his career in January 2000 as a patrol officer with the North Riverside Police Department. February 2002, he joined the Illinois State Police working patrol in the Chicagoland area. As a patrol officer, he became a field training officer and counselor with the Illinois State Police Explorer program as a mentor. 
He then worked a narcotics/patrol canine for eight years focusing on criminal interdiction, which led to successful arrests and seizures. During his canine career, he became an instructor for basic/advanced canine classes and canine crowd control.

After patrol, Edward was promoted to a Special Agent and worked two years in the general assignment unit conducting various investigations to include, general investigations, threats to public officials, on/off duty officer involved shootings, expressway shootings, homicide/suicide and financial investigations. In addition to his investigative duties, he is also a member of the Illinois State Police Honor Guard and Special Weapons of Mass Destruction team.

Edward accepted a position as a Task Force Officer with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Chicago Field Division. During the eight years, he conducted many firearm trafficking investigations involving illegal straw purchasing of firearm. In addition to firearms trafficking. He presented arrests under the Project Safe Neighborhood program, which included numerous gun purchases from felons/prohibited individuals, search/arrest warrant operations and was directly involved in an undercover agent being shot. He was awarded the ATF Meritorious Service award and Group service commendation, presented by the ATF Director and United States Attorney General.

During his investigations career, he became a member of the South Suburban Major Crime Task Force and West Suburban Major Crime Task Force. He was promoted to a supervisor with the West Suburban Major Crime Task Force, overseeing teams during call outs. 

Edward is currently an Illinois State Police instructor teaching new recruits and sworn members in Control/Arrest Tactics and Rapid Deployment. Additionally, he is an instructor with the North East Multi Regional Training center teaching law enforcement personnel in Basic Surveillance and Basic/Advanced Executive Protection.
