Course Overview:

Google collects and retains location data on their servers from Android enabled mobile devices, as well as devices supporting Google applications such as Google Search, Gmail, Google Maps, and Google Drive, so long as the location services of the phone are enabled.

Law enforcement officials across the United States have legally obtained this data from Google. In December 2023, Google announced that they are changing their process for collecting and storing a user’s data. The anticipated changes will greatly impact law enforcement’s ability to prepare traditional geo fencing warrants. A Google spokesperson announced that the changes would take place over the next twelve months. Although geo fencing data may be limited, known tracking warrants can still be extremely useful for law enforcement.

This webinar will provide a step-by-step process on the proper methods to obtain, interpret, and map the data provided by Google.
