Samuel Hanson is a passionate leader and trainer in the public safety community. He is the founder and principal of Sam Hanson Group and Peacekeeping Institute, and has over a decade of public safety operator, research and development, teaching, and consulting experience.

Samuel holds a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice Studies, a Master of Science in Public Safety Executive Leadership, a Master of Science in Criminal Justice Studies, and doctoral work in Psychology. He holds a Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Master Peace Officer certification, a TCOLE Advanced Instructor certification, a TCOLE Mental Health Officer certification, a TCOLE Crime Prevention Specialist certification, and an Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) credential.

Serving a large metropolitan law enforcement organization, Samuel has fulfilled uniform, covert, and administrative assignments. He currently serves as a training coordinator, instructor, and behavioral science liaison to the mental and behavioral health community. Additionally, he consults with Texas State University and the Texas School Safety Center as he continues to teach criminal justice and psychology-related programs.

Over the years, Samuel has served on multiple TCOLE committees, to include: a committee charged with revising the state mandated "Basic Peace Officer Curriculum,” a committee charged with revising the state’s “Mental Health Peace Officer” certification curriculum, and, most recently, a committee charged with developing a wellness and suicide prevention-related program for law enforcement personnel.

Samuel continues to be instrumental in curriculum development and program delivery. Some of his recent projects include instructor development-related programs, use of force-related programs, critical decision making-related programs, and mental health/crisis intervention/de-escalation-related programs.

Samuel’s research interests include crisis, threat, and risk identification, prevention, intervention, and management. Additionally, his interests have focused on critical social interactions, critical decision making, performance readiness, and resiliency.
